I bought this as a Christmas present for my son, and we had a blast putting it together. The instructions were clear, and the robot worked as advertised once complete.The T-rex build is fun but a little unstable in its movement. The other robot options, however, are much more solid and work very well. Battery life is decent for the kind of playtime you’d expect, though I wish it didn’t use a proprietary charging port—it would be more convenient if it were standard.Overall, this is a great purchase for kids ages 5 and up who are interested in robots, Legos, or just enjoy building things. It’s engaging, educational, and entertaining all at once.

This is on of the latest in the series of Sillbird STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathletics) robot kits that comes with components and instructions to build 5 different robot variations from it’s assortment of 596 components. It’s straight forward enough that you don’t need to be a budding MIT student to have fun with it. All you require is curiosity and interest. Younger children might need a little assistance but likely there’s some older person around that will be curious enough to jump in and assist.Sillbird kits are well constructed, well packaged, well documented and also supported by their own website making for a challenging yet frustration free kit building experience.The size of the pieces are what you’d expect from similar snap together building kits ( insert ubiquitous well known global brand here..) The overall assembled robot is substantial enough to display while offering play value with it’s unique accessories, electronics and control options.This kit states it’s from ages 8-14 but there’s a kid inside everyone and anyone who enjoys the challenges of assembling models will get enjoyment from this well constructed kit. You are rewarded with a cute little robot that has some interesting features worth exploring. I think anyone who enjoys any one of these aspects will want to dig straight into this kit.After construction your robot can be controlled with the wireless remote or cellphone using Bluetooth via a downloadable app by QR code for iOS and Android. The app allows for real time control using touchscreen joysticks or the phone gyroscopic sensor. There’s also path programming, in addition it’s possible to sequence a series of savable pre-programmed actions using a building block graphical interface approach which can be run through from your phone. No previous programming experience required. The app also includes basic instructions which are in English.Assembling the kit and exploring the robots features is fun, interesting and rewarding while not being overly complicated. Packaging, organization and documentation is quite thorough. As for gifting the kit including it’s box is colorful, interesting, balanced and professional which presents well and reflects quality. Overall great play value and the end result is your own cute little robot that you’ve assembled.

This robot kit was a blast to build. First off, the instruction manual deserves real praise. It’s clear, detailed, and never left us guessing, even in steps involving a lot of smaller parts. We built model A, which I believe is the most complex version, yet the visuals made everything straightforward. The inclusion of “true size” reference points helps confirm you’re using the right pieces whenever there’s room for confusion. The bags, however, are not numbered or sorted in some clear fashion, so it helps to “pre-sort” the parts prior to starting. Otherwise, a lot of time will be spent looking through the bags looking for specific pieces (there are a lot of unique shapes).The build quality is excellent. The pieces fit together with that satisfying click, and the included assembly and disassembly tool becomes especially useful toward the end. There were no missing parts, and there are plenty of spares (likely for the other build variations). Even the stickers appeared to be high quality.Once built, it’s fun to control. Only the tracks move, while the arms and other parts are not motorized, but the smoke cannon is a great touch. The total build took us around five hours. In terms of difficulty, an eight-year-old would likely need some help, while a young teen would probably be able to complete it solo.The companion app offers a surprising amount of customization and is very user-friendly, even for someone without a tech background. There’s a QR code on the box to download it. The robot’s sound effects can get a little annoying, but fortunately there’s a mute option.So with all that said, I’m very impressed with this kit, especially for the price. It’s comparable in quality to brand-name sets and would make an excellent gift for anyone interested in building or coding.

This set is awesome!! Its not for me, but rather for a young (8 year old) family member who is going to flip out over this. She loves building things and this will keep her occupied for hours. Being able to not only build one model, but 4 alternate prescribed models with the included parts is terrific. I don’t understand the whole programming step associated with this toy but I know she will.Can’t talk about the more technical pieces, but it looks like blocks from the major brand fits these pieces.There are numerous parts bags which seem to be sorted in a logical manner, accompanied by two massive books of instructions showing how to put everything together. Going through the sorting process will keep kids busy for hours alone.There is two main modules. One is the controller needing two AA batteries. The other contains the motor, the rechargeable battery, electronics, some neat internal lights, and the motors. It also has a sound module. Three digital elements plug into the main module, two for the animated “eyes” and one for the mist producing ray gun type element that lights up in red.Since I am saving this as a gift, I can’t comment on the play aspect of this but seeing how well this is packaged, how complete the instructions are, and how beautifully presented this is, I know it will be a real hit!
