Very nice monitor – no lag, super clear picture & great for gaming!
I ordered this for my son. He is an avid gamer. His previous monitor was 24 inches – and although a usable size, it’s always better to have a larger screen (in my opinion). This is an IPS monitor, which I recommend for gamers because the colors are accurate and the picture is outstanding. This is QHD – which I wasn’t familiar with prior to owning this monitor. Apparently it’s better than HD but doesn’t require you to have a crazy gaming setup like 4k does. So this is perfect for us, as my son has a mid-tier gaming setup. Included with this monitor is both an HDMI cable and a DisplayPort cable. If you opt to use the DisplayPort cable, you will get better picture quality and higher fps. We initially connected ours with the HDMI because it was easier to connect this new monitor quickly via the old monitor cord. It was an immediate upgrade from the MSI monitor he was using. However, once connected via DisplayPort, it was even better. The 200hz refresh rate is awesome for gaming, I’m not even sure my sons graphics card is cabaple of the full 200hz, but it looks amazing and when he is playing Fortnite. This comes with a stand and requires minimal assembly. I really like that it uses screws – 2 small ones. I have set up a lot of monitors and most just click into place on the stand. I feel like this is much more secure due to the screws. Unfortunately, this stand isn’t the best. For how nice of a monitor this is, I wish the stand was a little better. The legs stick out front in a V shape. It feels a little front heavy and I am concerned about it tipping – especially if my son rage quits a game and pushes himself away from the desk (he’s 12 and we are working on this lol), I could totally see the monitor falling forward onto the screen. We are in the process of finding a more sturdy stand for it. I didn’t take any stars off for the stand because a lot of people choose to mount their monitors and don’t even use the stands. But I would recommend planning to get a better stand asap if you aren’t mounting it.I also wanted to mention for those who may be less tech savvy, that this worked immediately when we connected it. There was no software or drivers or anything needed to make it work. The longest part of the whole process is assembling the stand (which takes less than 5 mins)Overall, I think this is a very nice monitor. It’s definitely the nicest one my son has had thus far. The picture quality is vivid and clear and there is no lag. I also love the size. It’s big enough that you can really see clearly what you’re doing, but not so big that you have to sit far back to see the whole thing. At the time of this review, this is priced at $249.99. I think that is a fair price for this and is on par with other monitors in its class.

Excellent high refresh IPS gaming monitor. Good viewing angles. Even brightness throughout panel.
The Samsung Odyssey G5 G53F QHD monitor is an excellent IPS high-refresh-rate gaming monitor, supporting up to a 200 Hz refresh rate. It’s thin, lightweight, and it runs cool. I like that despite being a gaming monitor, it has a no-frills appearance, without any flashing LEDs. For VRR, it supports AMD FreeSync Premium, with a refresh rate range of 48 to 200 Hz, as reported by my GPU software. The image quality is very good. The screen has little to no backlight bleed that I can see, with a very uniform brightness across the panel. While I don’t do any professional image editing, the colors seem excellent to me. Black levels are also very reasonable. The viewing angles supported by this IPS panel are impressive as well, with little observable change to image quality from the range of typical angles. The monitor does support HDR. While it may not be up to the level of OLED panels, I was still impressed by the HDR-enabled YouTube videos and games I tried. It can push out a decent amount of brightness. For inputs, there are two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort. Two cables, one DisplayPort and one HDMI, come in the box, which is useful if this monitor is destined for a new PC. As with other Samsung panels I’ve owned in the past, the ports face down and are located in an area where it’s hard to see what goes where by simply bending over the monitor. However, I don’t often swap cables in the monitor, so having to fumble around every now and then isn’t that big of a deal. Since it’s much easier to get my phone at the right angle, it helped to photograph the ports with the phone’s camera. The base that ships with this monitor is functional. It requires some assembly, but it’s straightforward. After turning a few screws, the monitor is ready to go. I opted to mount the monitor on my VESA stand instead. I encountered no issues installing the stand’s VESA backplate and got it mounted within minutes.Out of the box, the monitor is limited to 60 Hz refresh, and FreeSync is disabled. Fortunately, there aren’t many menus to navigate in the OSD to enable the higher refresh rate limits and VRR. There are several refresh rate limit options available, but I went for the highest the monitor supports, 200 Hz. My first impression of the configuration interface was excellent. Everything is laid out well enough that I don’t have to look up anything to figure out what I need to do.Overall, this is a very nice high-refresh-rate monitor. The asking price at the time of this review is not cheap, but I think it’s a reasonable value. My biggest gripe is that the ports can be tricky to access. It also would have been nice to have two DisplayPort inputs, instead of just one. Many GPUs these days have multiple DisplayPort outputs, but few HDMI. Other than that, I’m very happy with this monitor. Once you discover high-refresh-rate gaming, it’s hard to go back.

Speedy refresh rate with value tradeoffs
The positive here is the refresh rate. If you need it or want it, this monitor delivers. However, there are some negatives. From a value standpoint, the stand is pretty basic. It only tilts; there’s no up/down height adjustment or left/right swivel. Cable management consists of a single small hook that already feels overcrowded with just one cord running through it.For connectivity, you get 2 HDMI ports and 1 DisplayPort, so you might have to use a connection type you’d rather avoid depending on your setup.I found the monitor to be quite dark out of the box. When I turned the brightness up, the picture felt washed out, so you’ll need to find a happy medium. That sweet spot for me was still darker than I would have preferred. This feels like a monitor designed to hit impressive specs on paper. I’m not knocking it for that, but you are trading some picture quality for that higher refresh rate. If refresh rate is your priority and you want to save some money, this is a solid option. Just know what you’re getting into with the picture quality and basic stand.
