Good radios. Would buy again.
Radios arrived same day I ordered…how do they do that? I had some very expensive two way radios years ago and was going through a drawer and found them again…They were pretty worn out as I live on a rural property and forgot why they ended up in a drawer. They were beyond useful life. I looked around for replacements and came across these Retivis RB29 radios as a 4 pack with handheld mics and the first thing I did was read the reviews. Some were bad and most were good to great. Then I read the manufacturers specs. They were honest about the range. 1/2 to maybe 3 miles in an open area. That’s about how far my old ’35 mile radius’ (and much more expensive ones were, I never got more than a mile with those. ) And the price seemed right, about $20 (give or take) each with all the accessories as a 4 pack. I used these for a few days before writing this review. The sound is crystal clear. They are as simple to use as can be. Simply charge them a few hours, turn them on, pick a channel and they’re good to go. I run my business in my basement and my wife can reach me easily with these without having to run up and down the stairs. Walking the dogs around my rural property and these keep me in constant communication with the family in case of emergency ( wild animals, etc…). I drove out about 1/2 mile until the signal dropped, but I was in my car and wife was in the house, so I was pretty happy with the range, it was as advertised. I dropped my radio 3 times, each time on concrete or asphalt, and not even a scratch. There are no real ‘frills’ on these, such as a lighted screen, or digital channel selector, and no squelch, but if no one else is on the channel, the radios are dead silent. When switching channels, the radio announces the channel, so that makes up for no screen to read. The handheld mics that can attach to the radios work very well, and allows me to simply put the radio on my belt and clip the mic to my shirt pocket or jacket lapel and use everything hands free. The instructions did not say how long it takes to charge, but it does state NOT to leave them on the charger after they are charged or you’ll kill the battery. The battery is integral to the rear cover, so replacing just the battery is not an option. The whole rear panel would need to be replaced which can be purchased on Amazon as well. The charger does not let you know when they are fully charged, the light stays on and stays green, but again, a 4 hour charge should suffice. To sum up, the range is as advertised, they survived 3 drops onto hard surfaces, they are crystal clear, easy to use and best of all, easy on the wallet. All in all I am pleased with the product, the price and the service ( delivery) from Amazon. A good deal all the way around.Quick edit after a week: I noticed when I put the radios on the charger, it always is lit up green. So I thought that’s the way it was designed. When I put the radios back on the charger, the light stayed green. Finally the radio batteries all died and the radios all gave a voice prompt to charge the batteries ( pretty cool). So I put the radios on the charger a few hours. Light was still green. After charging, ( I thought), the radios were still dead. Now, here’s the fix: I saw more than a few reviews mentioned that the radios died after a few days and won’t hold a charge. That’s what I thought too. Take the batteries off the radio and put them in the charging slot UNATTACHED to the body. There is a special slot in the charger to put only the battery. The light then lit up RED and after a few hours it was green again. Battery fully charged. So if you think the radios died completely after a few days, take the battery off, put the battery itself in the charger. It will light up red until it is charged. They work perfectly.EDIT # 2: Had these more than a month now. We use them every day. They work perfectly. BUT: Again I saw some people said they would not charge on the charger. I also thought I had to take the battery off to charge as they did not seem to charge on the charger unless I removed the battery. Please read this carefully if you are having this problem: They DO charge on the charger without removing the battery. You will notice two small guides inside the charger. If the battery is off the radio, you just slide the battery behind the two guides and it will charge…however, if you don’t want to take the batteries off the radios to charge them, you must line up the 2 guides with the indentations on both sides of the radios and the battery will be in the correct position to charge. Yes, it took me a month to figure that out. But I see some were still writing that they could not charge the radios and threw them out or gave bad reviews. Simply line up the guides in the charger with the indentations on either side of the radios ( where the battery is) and everything lines up perfectly to charge. I love these little radios and use them every day. I would repurchased in a heartbeat if I need more.

Says it has VOX but can’t figure out how to make that work.
Quality seems decent, sound is clean and crisp. Range is maybe a mile, depending on terrain could be more or less, these are only 2 watt transmitters, which is the most you can have in the FRS band in the US- which is unfortunate). Comes with a lapel mic, belt clip and lanyard. Instructions dont quite specify everything, but it can be figured out. (Other than VOX- see comments). Durability at this point is unknown at this point as I just received them. They have 16 channels and the unit annunciates verbally when you turn it on telling you what channel you are on. It says it has a VOX feature but I can’t figure out how to make that work and there is nothing in the directions that explain it, hence why these get four stars. They are fairly simple to operate and function well. I would like to see the output volume be louder, I can see in a loud environment these may not perform well.

The walkie talkies seam to be built like a rock but the wired mics they send don’t last long I’m 2 day past for return warranty and I have 2 wired microphones that doesn’t work after only used them 2 times for the price should be a longer warranty I bought a 4 pack of mics for work other than that the radios it self are good battery life last 1 ¹/² days
