    Poor execution of good idea
I was looking forward to being able to take notes and have them sync automatically, without my having to scan the page and save to my system. It would save lots of hours. Unfortunately, this one is not the answer. First off, it only uses their proprietary ink cartridge, which is terrible. The ink flow and writing ability is akin to those pens you buy in bulk for promo purposes. It is really that bad. Second, there are two apps for this product, both with similar names. One supposedly replaced the other but the literature is not clear as to which one to use. What’s worse, is that the step by step instructions are in english, but the pictures with the options on what to do are in chinese. So, not very helpful. Not to mention that the support steps on the website and the app don’t always match and neither is up to date. But the biggest problem is trying to get the pen to sync with the app. I have to resync the pen with the app every time I use it. And even going through that step, the pen doesn’t always transfer to my app. You’re supposed to be able to write and sync later. Mine will not sync later. The only way I can get it to sync is if I have the app open while I am writing in the notebook. Extremely disappointed with this product and the lack of support.

Works great to bridge paper and digital
Lamy pen of Lamy size.Long lasting battery: several weeks, I suppose it depends on the volume of writing.Transcribe handwriting to text: 99%. Some words have a strange letter or two but this is the exception rather than the norm.Paper available in multiple formats.Ability to search through handwritten notes by jus typing a keyword on the app is working great.Hope more features will come with the next software versions.

If you hace the app open… works
The synchronization only works if you have the app open. Never more than the first one. There is no way to use in different devices

    Wow it actually works lol
First day of use has been awesome. It’s weird that they still have their old app on the AppStore, wish they would have just rebuilt it for simplicity sake.Really impressed with my experience so far! 🤩

    Junk
Requires an account to transfer data from pen to other device. Very light – poor hand feel. Parts rattle inside.

Where have you been all my life
As much as I want to transition over to digital, I’ve always found it difficult to take notes using a mouse and keyboard as it lacks the speed, creativity, and organization of a pen and paper. But when it comes to the Ncode technology its pure magic. The note book comes with almost 200 pages of Ncode paper and if you were to flip the notebook open and start writing, the software knows exactly where on the page your writing and even the page number. The notebook comes with a book mark that you can tap the colours and now your writing in red, blue, yellow, green etc. You can also edit your digital doc later, reorganize your notes, transcribe them and share them. The setup is as simple as it gets and if your not 100% paying attention you might actually miss part of the setup and not even know your all set. Basically, download the the app. When you open it you have to signup and then your presented with a page that says there are no notebooks. Just turn on your pen and the software will automatically find and connect, and if your not paying attention, you won’t even know it happened. The next step is the bit that might blow your mind. Take the pen and start circling or writing or drawing on the instructions. You’ll notice on your device that a copy of the instructions appeared and now has you markup. There are is even a Help button in the Ncode page. Tap it with the nib of the pen and you’ll have the help screen on your device. In the notebook there are buttons to Share and Bookmark. The down side to this is that you can’t use plane paper or your own notebook. However you can buy these Ncode notebooks. I’m not sure how the cost compares, but the notebook its self is of great quality. And if you have a PS compatible printer, you can head over to Neo Smartpen and print your own pages to which they have about a dozen templates you can choose from. There is also some kind of Hybrid Docs solution which I haven’t played with yet. There is room for improvement.- No USB-C, your limited to Micro-USB- The pen is bulky and it looks like a marker with the cap on.- Has a cheap plastic feel to it- You can’t use it with normal paper or a notebook.

    Interesting product
I love Lamy pens. They are by far my favorite writing utensil. When I seen this, I had to try it. For the pen its self, it feels exactly like all Lamy pens which is awesome. It uses the D1 replacement cartridges that just slide out of the front of the pen, no need to unscrew it or anything weird. Writing on the digital paper is natural and feels like any other notebook. The rub is that the pen’s digital note taking function only works on the special digital notebooks. And they are really expensive. But after poking around some, the folks that make the pen’s electronics have free downloadable PDFs. These PDFs have “ncode” embedded in them and if you printer supports it, it can print “blank” pages for you to write on and the pen will transcribe from them. The magic is ncode, which is basically invisible microdots all over the page that the pen uses as tracking. So, if you don’t want to fork out $30 plus for a notebook, you can print some ncode enabled pages to use. Maybe the price of the notebooks will come down though in the future. With all of that being said, the pen’s transcribe function is very accurate and it is amazing to be writing on paper and watching it appear on the phone’s screen in real-time.

I love the idea of being able to write by hand and it be transcribed to text such that I can send it in an email. It also indexes different areas of my life so that I can search key words and all the pages where I write about that type of thing will come up.The downside is there aren’t many options for ink cartridges and it’s not super smooth compared to what I’d ideally like to write with. The replacement books are quite expensive too.The charge lasts a long time on the pen, but if it dies you’ll have to rewrite everything. Also if you retrace a word the transcription software doesn’t know how to process it and you’ll be looking at Greek or pig Latin. Also, you have to make sure the app is open and the pen synched every time or you’ll have to retrace the page again.I still really prefer it to taking my lap top to meetings. Just wish I could get a wider ballpoint and a lighter shade of blue ink.
