You really are getting your money’s worth out of these. Colors are natural, the bulb itself is pretty responsive, and in white light mode it feels like a standard lamp bulb.

Glad I made the switchOverall I am definitely moving towards just using Govee. I feel like even if the price was the same, they offer so much more customization options. And it’s really hard to turn down a 100 dollar price difference…If you’re on the fence, I would try them. For smart devices, there’s some really good value-per-dollar here.
I already had two Philips Hue 800 lumen color bulbs. Lately, I’d been disappointed with the brightness of these devices. At 800 lumens, the room can’t ever really get “bright”. For my office area this was getting frustrating, so I started reviewing options.After being super impressed with the Govee wall-mounted LED strips/diffuser, I decided to check out their bulbs compared to sticking with my old Philips Hue bulbs. Here’s the breakdown:Brightness:- The Philips Hue 4 pack I found that can still do colors had 1100 lumens. Certainly an upgrade from 800.- The Govee pack here does 1200. Even better.Cost:- The Philips Hue bulbs are 179.99 for a 4 pack, and require the Philips Hue bridge to work fully if you don’t already have one- The Govee bulb 4 pack here is 79.99 at the time of writing, with no additional accessories needed. Since I already have a Hue bridge, this is an instant 100 dollar savings.Ease of first time setup:- Pretty much equal here, neither are difficult to setup.App:- The Philips Hue app is much cleaner looking (feels very “enterprise”) but holy cow does it limit your ability to tinker with the lights. I feel like if you don’t like the included 10-20 scenes they have, then you’ll be dealing with third-party apps to get what you want, or manually making scenes.- The Govee app is less clean, and can be a bit difficult to navigate at first. HOWEVER, it’s an ocean deep with what you can customize. There are hundreds of pre-made scenes, and you can use cool scenes other people have made. I really enjoy the ability to tinker and get into the finite details of the light settings. It’s better to have a bunch of options you’ll probably never use, as opposed to missing even one or two options you WISH you could use.Google Home integration:- The Philips Hue bulbs are very frustrating to deal with here. You can’t use the Philips Hue app scenes with Google Home very well. In my experience, you’re better off with going the third-party route and creating the scenes within Google Home, which it’s definitely not optimized for. Very disappointing, and part of the reason I looked for alternatives.- The Govee ecosystem seems a bit different, but works. You create a “tap-to-run” routine in the Govee app (where it’s much easier to get your color scene right where you want it) and then I just tell my speaker “Hey Google, run

An old friend gets better
I decided to standardize on Govee products for home automation due to the selection available and how pleased I was with the previous version of these smart bulbs. For the most part, it’s worked out pretty well and the bulbs I had have all been put to use, so I decided to get some of these new ones. I ordered two and put them in my living room’s three-bulb overhead light, which positions the bulbs a few feet apart making them easy to compare.The new bulbs are notably brighter than the older version in the center. The older bulbs are only a few months old so the claimed lumen increase seems to be legit. The controls in the app are exactly the same so no changes are required other than the usual pairing and assignment to groups. The colors look more accurate to the selected color in the app than the old bulb, which is especially noticeable with reds and yellows. I just swept through the color bar and they really stood out in those sections.Recommended. Another solid smart light bulb from Govee. From a pure money standpoint, I can’t say that the difference is worth replacing any old Govee bulbs, nor is it really worth spending more money to get these if you can get the older version significantly cheaper. In and of themselves, however, these are great smart bulbs and well worth having.

The light bulbs are easy to install and connect in the app. But the app is very finicky, every time I turn my lights on it is a completely different colour than what I set in the app, and when I go ahead and change it in the app, sometimes it just won’t change, and I would have to restart the app.The light bulbs though, I have no complaints. It was easy to install and it is very bright—it lights up my entire room easily. There are many different colours you can set it to and it is very easy to do so.
