【Apple Home and Home Key Support】The U50 is a smart door lock that is fully integrated into Apple Home. It can be unlocked with the Apple Home Key by simply tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch, even when the iPhone or Apple Watch is out of power. Moreover, you can manage and share door access for your guests in Apple Home. With a Matter compatible Aqara hub, it features Matter support.(Tips: After adding the door lock to the Aqara Home app, only the administrator’s fingerprint or password can reset the door lock.)
【Remote Passwords and Unlock】The Smart Lock U50 offers multiple ways to unlock, including keypad unlocking, remotely configurable passwords via the Aqara Home app (An Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required), one-time local passwords when no internet connection is available, and a temporary password for visitors. * The NFC card is not included and is sold separately.
【Automations with Aqara and Third-Party Devices】With an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub, the smart door lock U50 is compatible with third-party ecosystems like Google Home, Alexa and IFTTT as well as the Aqara Home app, allowing it to be easily integrated into a wide range of smart home setups and used in smart home automations. For example, when someone presses the Aqara Video Doorbell G4, you will be able to view who is at your door and easily unlock the U50 door lock. (Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.)
【Auto Lock & Do Not Disturb Mode】Thanks to the built-in gyroscope, the auto-lock feature locks the door for you after you close it. Alternatively, you can disable this feature and leave the door in the passage mode. Also, the Do Not Disturb mode can mute the door lock sounds within a certain period of time, to avoid affecting your family’s sleep when you get back home late.
【A Durable and Secure Deadbolt Lock with Long Battery Life】 The U50 is powered by 4 AA Batteries (6V batteries required, included) and has a long battery life of up to 6 months. Also, a USB-C to A port for emergency charging is available. The lock body made of zinc alloy has an IPX5 rating and complies with the same safety standard as BHMA Level 3. It’s capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from -31°F to 150.8°F. Your sensitive data is stored locally and fully AES encrypted.
【Rekeying Made Easy with U50】The Smart Lock U50 cylinder is designed for rekeying. Simply remove the lock cylinder, have a locksmith adjust the pins to match your existing 5-pin key, and you’ll be able to continue using your original key to unlock it.

Looks great, functions properly, good price.
Bluetooth – checked, Apple home key – checked, Keypad – checked, Very clean look and functionality – checked, Price – checked. I was able to check all of my boxes with this lock. Simple, reliable (so far), no hiccups and relatively easy installation. The best part – you just bring your iPhone close to the keypad and it opens. No need to even turn your phone’s screen or go to the app – it works as a hotel key, just bring it close and it works. That’s what I was looking for when I did my research on the smart locks. The keypad is also great in case if you left your phone behind, no worries. It’s responsive and looks clean. I really like the overall design. It’s not bulky and feels right. What to watch out for: beware of a back lid where batteries live. It is HARD to remove. Every time I did, I thought I broke it. It’s tight and has nothing to do with how easy it looks on the instructions video. Believe me – it’s not the case. There is a little groove/slot to use the tool provided to open the back lid but when you do it literally feels like you are gonna snap it broken. Luckily it hasn’t happened yet, let’s hope it’s just the way it was designed and it’s gonna hold strong. But honestly – I’m not looking forward to the time I’m gonna have to replace the battery…

Superb upgrade — two installed and working flawlessly!
I installed two of the Aqara Smart Lock U50 in my home and couldn’t be happier. They’re fully compatible with Apple Home and Home Key, so locking/unlocking with my iPhone or Apple Watch is effortless. Setup was straightforward, and the operation smooth every time.Install tip: make sure your door’s existing deadbolt is standard size and your HomeKit setup is ready. Once in place, you’ll enjoy keyless entry + smart lock functionality without the headaches. Highly recommended!

    Looks amazing, but slightly glitchy
This is a nice door lock overall. I liked the way it looked, which was the leading reason I bought it. I love the way it looks on my door, and it still looks brand new nearly a year later. The sun beams directly on it all afternoon, so it is VERY well made to still not be fading or malfunctioning. The different smart features are really neat with this lock. With a hub, you can open it from anywhere, generate one-time codes, set up numerous users (with various roles), and many other cool things.I got this almost a year ago and I’ve still not had to replace the batteries yet. I used nice batteries, but still, that’s impressive. The app always connects quickly, too.My biggest complaint is that it takes a few taps for the keypad to start registering. It’s not true buttons, just a screen, which looks super cool but makes the lag very annoying. Anytime I’m unlocking the door, or locking it behind me, I have gotten used to just pressing the screen over and over again before it’ll register anything. If I could go back in time, I likely would try a different lock instead of this one. I absolutely love the way it looks more than any others I’ve seen, but the issue I mentioned above is so annoying. Appearance alone gets 5 stars, though.

    Unreliable access.
I have had this lock for quite a while and from day one I have had issues with it. I generally do not give a one star review on a product but I want to let others know of the experience I am having with this lock. First, when the door is opened for any amount of time, even just 30 seconds, the lock starts beeping and when you close the door about 90% of the time the lock will not auto lock. I always have to check the door to make sure it is locked. Lately the app no longer works so if I am not home I can not unlock the door remotely. So I am currently 500 miles from home and my son and his wife are going to be in my home town today for the weekend. They have a card and a code both to unlock the door but the app will not unlock it for the housekeeper to let here in. She has a card to open it but that failed as well. After her swiping the card and me opening the app multiple times the door finally unlocked. When she was done and left she locked the door but I still can not use the app to unlock it. The app and the lock are both very unreliable. Unless you have a key there is a chance you will not gain entry to the house.

Great and nice looking lock. Easy to install and use.
This lock is so easy to install. It took me 30 min. and configure it with Apple Home was also vey easy and fast. Love the automations which I could program the lock tonopen or close at certain times and on certain days. Pretty good. No need to download the manufacturer app, it works just well. I can open lock with phone or watch. Manufacturer app sone extra features that I did not need.

Aqara Smart Lock U50 a GREAT Product for Apple HomeKit
The first thing that I noticed was the weight of the item before installing it, that told me that is was built well and heavy duty and durable. The second thing was how easy was to install, you can’t go wrong if you follow their install instructions. The third thing is the Aqara Smart Lock U50 is a great product to use with Apple HomeKit. This Smart Lock is being used in my The Cowboy 🤠 Shed walk-in door which is 120 feet away from the house. I no longer have to carry a key to unlock the walk-in door, now I just hold my Apple Watch next to the lock and in two seconds the lock automatically unlocks. If I am in the house and forgot to lock The Cowboy 🤠 Shed walk-in door I just open the Apple iPhone Control Center and tap the icon to lock the door. It is that simple and it works GREAT. As I said this Smart Lock works great with Apple HomeKit for me.Thanks Aqara for making a good product that I can rely on!

Auto lock when the door closes is unreliable. A third of the time doesn’t lock so have to be always on the lookout if door lock is triggered or not. Other than that it’s been good.

We’ve been using the U50 with Apple HomeKit flawlessly since original installation roughly 3 months ago. The hardware itself is well designed to fit various doors and although in our case, some very minor chisel work was necessary to get it flush with the latch, this was because the prior deadbolt was slightly misaligned. We also did have to reset and pair it with HomeKit a few times before it would initially connect – but since then, we’ve experienced a perfect interaction with this HomeKit accessory. Our HomeKit ‘hub’ is an AppleTV 4K – neither the lock nor the AppleTV are in close proximity to our WiFi hub, so this Aqara lock seems to have remarkably good connectivity for a battery-powered device and we’re still on the initial set of batteries.

First impression? This thing’s got more tech crammed into it than a spaceship. It’s got keyless entry, Apple Home Key, Bluetooth, and even works with Alexa and Google Home. Basically, if you have a smart home ecosystem, this lock’s like, “Sure, I can work with that.”The Good:Keyless Entry: No more fumbling with keys like a caveman. Just use your phone or the keypad. It’s like I’m in a sci-fi movie every time I come home.Multiple Entry Options: You can unlock it with your phone, Apple Watch, or even set up multiple codes for different people. Got in-laws visiting? Give them their own code and revoke it when they leave. Genius.Integration: Works with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa, and IFTTT. You can even set it up to unlock when your kid gets home from school. It’s like having a personal doorman.Security: This lock is no joke. Meets BMHA Grade 3 standards, which is solid for home use. Plus, you can rekey it if needed, so you’re not stuck if something goes wrong.Easy Installation: Comes with all the parts and screws you’ll need. Just follow the QR code instructions and you’re golden. The Bad:Bulky Design: This thing is a beast. It’s like strapping a mini safe to your door. Not the most elegant, but hey, it’s a smart lock, not a fashion statement.Hub Required: If you want to integrate it with HomeKit or Google Home, you need a hub. More gadgets, more money. They get you every time with this stuff.Battery Life: Runs on four AA batteries. While they claim it lasts long, if you live in a place with harsh winters, you might be swapping batteries more often than you’d like. At least there’s a USB-C port for emergency power.Overall, the Aqara Smart Lock U50 is a solid choice if you’re looking to upgrade your home security without breaking the bank. It’s got a few quirks, like needing a hub for full functionality and its less-than-sleek design, but the convenience and peace of mind it offers are worth it. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars because, let’s face it, nothing’s perfect, but this comes pretty close for the price.

I bought 3 of these ‘brand new’ from Amazon. Only 2 could be setup. This is a major concern preventing me from buying more or recommending it to anyone. Reddit is full of users complaining about this problem. In the current firmware there is absolutely no way for an owner to effectively factory-reset any Aqara door lock without an Admin code that is not disclosed anywhere. As a direct result Amazon now has a bunch of previously-owned, returned, bricked Aqara door locks in circulation being re-sold as new directly from the official Aqara store front. It’s a gamble if someone’s ‘new’ Aqara door locks is going to work out of the box because they are legitimately selling you a returned device already paired to some strangers home and it cannot be reset whatsoever. My situation was resolved by Amazon. Aqara needs to fix this disaster on all its door locks with a firmware update that lets the reset button perform a reset. Currently the reset button just does a power cycle and it’s useless.I don’t recommend any Aqara door lock to anyone until this fatal design flaw is patched. The hardware and HomeKit integration is flawless, but the inability to reset it is a strong justification not to buy one.

Works well with HomeKit via an AppleTV (acting as the Home hub). No issues with extreme rain, direct sunlight, and winter weather (the lock is fully exposed). Some issues noted in previous reviews are (sorry to say) user error. It’s not super easy to set up: the lock needs to be set up using Bluetooth, which is fine because you do it once, or if you need to change a setting. There are lots of options to change in the app settings, but once you set it up in HomeKit, you can do the rest from Apple’s Home app (or whatever home app you want).Where it gets confusing (maybe?) is setting up top automations. For example, we have two doors in a row, and the first lock and one tell the other to unlock to save tapping twice. I also had a light turn on automatically, but turning the light on/off triggered the door to unlock! The deadbolt hardware does seem “loose” compared to the old locks, but the deadbolt is super smooth to open and close (one finger), and we haven’t had issues (even with kids slamming the door while the deadbolt is open).
