Great for the neighborhood. I can get about 5 blocks in a dense neighborhood which is far enough for the kids to travel around. My 4 year old can press the button and communicate on his own after some training.

DON’T WASTE YOUR BREATH OR VOICE
Sorry to say that I’m NOT IMPRESSED with this product. In the PRODUCT DISCRIPTION the term “LONG RANGE” is unjustly used. In the old days, a walkie talkie had a range of a quarter mile, the sound is garbled at a few hundred feet. I wanted to use them on a family road trip between three cars. The distance between car one and car three was only four lengths, you can not make out what was being said. Thus I give a thumbs down and will return them.

Just got these walkie talkies today, we only really tested them around the house and they seem to work just fine. I am really excited to try them on my family’s next bike ride. Will post an update in about a month or so.

Simple Communication, Missing Promised Features
The Baofeng T18 FRS radio kit boasts a well-crafted build and an ideal size for portability. The belt clips are optional and replaceable should they become damaged. The kit includes chargers for both radio sets and in-ear headsets, which performed exceptionally well during testing. My wife and I utilized the radios on our mountain bikes to maintain communication. The remote microphone features a transmit button, facilitating seamless communication.In practical testing, I achieved an outdoor range of approximately half a mile, considering obstacles such as trees and buildings. The radios are user-friendly, offer substantial battery life, and provide the convenience of USB-C charging. However, there are advertised advanced features that do not function as advertised. I will elaborate on these below.The user manual states that these radios support CTCSS and DCS tones for limiting incoming signals in congested frequency areas. However, I was unable to configure these settings directly from the radio’s interface. Additionally, the manual mentions a VOX feature that requires setup via the CPS software from a computer. Unfortunately, the manual does not provide instructions on where to download the software, nor is it available on Baofeng’s website for this model. I was able to download the CPS software for a GT-18 model, which successfully enabled these features. It is worth noting that the cable required to program these radios is not included; it is not USB-C, but rather a Kenwood-style radio programming cable.Furthermore, the weather feature on these radios appears to be malfunctioning. When attempting to tune in to a NOAA weather channel, the squelch function does not activate for any of the available channels. From my location, I typically receive two NOAA weather channels, but these radios only display static when the monitor button is held manually to manually open the squelch.Another anomaly I encountered with this radio is the keypad lock function. When activated, the ‘Mon’ button could be pressed, inadvertently placing the radio in weather channel mode. This could result in separation from the radio party and missed communications.
