I feel safer already !!!
I read reviews looking for the easiest home security cameras I could find that even I could install and it actually works wonderfully. So glad I purchased 2 of these camera’s. I got one set up in the front of our house facing the driveway. We have had some late night egg throwers. And would love to know who’s doing it. Hoping this camera shows us. Also, this subdivision has had numerous vehicle break in’s off and on in the past few years. So, I know this camera will be the tool we need to catch some baddies. I received these cameras in 2 days everything I needed to install except I did order one of the brackets because I read that you can get wider angles. It was 15.99. Glad I ordered it separately. First I tried the camera on the mount it came with. The mount is solid and magnet is very powerful pull to hold camera. However, I was able to get a wider angle and views when I installed the bracket that I ordered separately. This camera is very clear. I took a few pics. Some during the day, and then at night, with automatic night vision and one without night vision and I turned my porch light on to see if there was a difference. Very happy with this cam so far. Thrilled I was able to install it all by myself, which is saying alot for me. Yay. The app is super easy. I installed it on my laptop so I can see footage in larger screen. I also downloaded it on my note 8 cell phone. I did not sign up for the service. Trying to see if I can get what I need without it. So far, so good. And the fact it has sound is very cool also. Amazing what crosses your porch and driveway in the night, different wild animals.February 4, 2019 Update: I LOVE THESE CAMERAS. So far we have caught 3 young guys trying to break in my son’s locked truck in driveway and they also went to house next door until it started raining. I could hear them saying oh NO, it’s starting to rain come on. Then they proceeded to run in back of subdivision to their get away vehicle. We got to them first. (That’s all I will say). Had a Fed X package go to house next door instead of me. I got a notice saying package WAS delivered to me. It was NOT. I zoomed in on FED X person and you could tell by the box it was MY COMFORTER SET, that I had ordered. So luckily I was able to get it back from neighbor. Took her a while. I had to show my footage on my cell. (I think the older woman was going to keep it, my packaged had been opened and taken out of the zip up thingy). I have seen a couple of Foxes, a coyote, lots of raccoons and a big snake cross my driveway. And I live in the city. I pay the 5 per month deal and get recorded footage up to 5 days which is all I need. If something important is on the camera I just use my cell to copy it before the 5 days is up. Great cameras. I am ordering 2 for my rentals. So I can make sure if somebody tries to steal my rental AC again, I will have them on camera. Every angle. Cameras are everywhere. If somebody does something they shouldn’t be doing they are MOST LIKELY BEING RECORDED. Some of them you can not see the cameras, hidden. My yard maintenance people even have them on their trucks and trailers (the battery kind). They caught a guy stealing their weed eaters off their long enclosed yard truck/trailers. The camera picked up their vehicle and tag and of course the man. They went to the guy’s house. Apparently he had been stealing a ton of stuff all over from people. They called cops and not sure what punishment the man got, but all the stolen stuff was taken to the police station and they got their weed eaters back.

Fantastic Camera! Even without the subscription
I got a pair of these for our family cabin. I didn’t buy them to PREVENT a crime but I did get them to record and store activity that might need to be reviewed later.I am not disappointed at all. Nest, as usual, makes great hardware and has the mobile integration down SOLID. These are easy to setup using a mobile device and they are fantastic quality. I am going to purchase more of these for sure. The subscription is nice…You get some decent features for the money but honestly, you don’t have to use the subscription to have some great benefit…Here is what I learned when the free trial of the subscription ended:1) I still got alerts in real time with texts and screen captures2) I was still able to see live views and scroll through time.3) I was still able to see and store footage to my nest accountWhat I noticed that went away when the subscription stopped1) Recognition of people versus “movement”. That’s kind of important but even w/o the subscription, you can tune this.2) Scrolling through the history and getting a live real-time preview or “Time Lapse” of the camera. I didn’t think I would care about this but actually it’s kinda handy to have. Still, you can live without it but it’s somewhat painful to scroll through history without the preview to “guess” when an event happened. Once you stop scrolling through time, it will show you the recording but … They did this on purpose hoping you would prefer the time lapse feature. I agree.I can’t think of anything else at the moment. I think the subscription is worth it and honestly it’s not that bad. It’s $50/year for one camera and every camera you add after is only $30 a year. So for 2 cameras, it’s $80 a year. In my situation, I think it’s totally worth it. The alerts are fantastic and the AI behind facial recognition is fantastic as well. The cameras even alert you specifically to PEOPLE TALKING which is a pretty cool feature. Have someone at your door pounding it and yelling? Yeah, nest is going to report that to you and record the whole thing. So many other reviewers here do a much better job at the review for these but for me, I review based on practicality and these cameras are very practical! Love them! I can’t wait to purchase more.Pro Tip: Nest account lets you have multiple properties. Ensure that you create a property for the cameras FIRST before adding them. I already had a nest account for my home with the thermostat so when I added the cameras for our vacation home, I did not make another location and that made things very confusing for the home/away features. I basically had to undo them and redo them again under a new location. Normally it’s not that bad but when they are on subscription, it’s a huge PITA. The more you know….

Excellent product all around.
I absolutely love what Nest is doing in the marketplace. Their products are innovative, stylish, easy to use, and best of all… they work the way they should! This camera is no exception. Install took me a bit, but that was just due to me taking my time to run the wires are cleanly as possible. Once installed, setup was a breeze with the Nest app on my smartphone. The customizing options are plentiful, but not overwhelming or unnecessary. I like how you can choose what definition you want the video recorded at… so for folks who have a slower internet service plan -or- are limited by data caps, you can lower the recording resolution to save on data usage. In my case – the full HD 1080p recording is perfect. I was able to easily setup digital zones within the camera’s view to stop getting annoying alerts when a car drives by, but still get alerts when someone actually enters my property line. Nest Aware subscription is kind of expensive when compared to the competition, but the competition doesn’t offer as good of a camera in my opinion… so it’s a trade off. But for me – $150/yr for 10-days of recording history for both my cameras is worth it… and far cheaper than a standalone security system from any of the major security companies. One tip for anyone installing the cameras: Even though they are fully weatherproof, I personally recommend installing them underneath an eve of the home (meaning – not just out in open airspace). This will prevent them from getting too cold in the winter with all the falling cold/moist air, and too hot in the summer getting beat on by the sun (the directions actually say not to let them get basked in sunlight).

After looking at alternatives, I went with my son’s recommendation who already owned one of these cameras. My hesitancy with purchasing them was with the operating temperature rating of -20C. This winter, it went down to -30C where my son lives and it worked fine. I installed 2 of my cameras at our cottage in northern Ontario and this morning it was -34C and they too were working fine. Operationally, they work well and easy to set up using the NEST App. The biggest challenge with the installation is connecting the power which requires the drilling of a 7/8″ hole from the camera location through any wall that is required to connect it to the power source. Another factor to consider is the cost of storage and management of the video clips. A 30 day subscription to Nest Aware will cost $8/month.

Very good quality and easy to setup and use. It would be nice if the cords could be adjusted for length easier, they seem to always be too long. Also if there was a small battery in each in case of a power outage or if someone tried disconnecting the power, would be safer.
