Great cameras
I have been using this camera for a while now and it’s been great. Unfortunately I had it sitting on top of a piece of furniture and I accidentally knocked it over. It only fell about a foot but it landed on my hard tile floor just right and the whole front which is glass cracked badly. So I went back on Amazon to purchase a replacement and saw it was on sale so I bought two. I always wanted one in my garage so now I do. Very easy to set up.Great picture quality and the speaker is damn good for as small as it is. I love that when I added these cameras they were automatically added to my Alexa Echo spot. I only complaint is at this date in time ecobee does not make an outdoor camera.I also own the ecobee thermostat and the ecobee doorbell camera, love everything ecobee so far.I also like that you do not need to load a micro sd card into the camera. One note if you want to use more than one camera you will have to pay a yearly subscription of $90That will allow you to add as many cameras as you like. With that yearly subscription you will also be able to have ecobee monitor your home as a security system. I have ordered the ecobee window and door sensors and they will be installed tomorrow. So I feel $90 year for a home security system is pretty inexpensive. Well worth the money in my opinion.

The Bad and the Good
Good and Bad: Lets start off with the bad. 20 minutes just adding each camera to the app. The software update alone is 10 minutes of that process and the rest is slow back and forth between install screens during the process. The camera onboarding process is pretty weird and after the software update it will almost make think the process failed leading you to start over. Also after he software update you have to go to the camera and do a factory reset. If you don’t choose the reset prompt in time you end up having to start the camera voice prompts over again instead of the voice prompts rolling over until you choose. Also the 2 way authentication process is a pain if you are setting up different homes or different email accounts. Such as home devices and business devicesThe good: Cameras work pretty good once you go through the arduous process

A capable Smart Camera, but it really requires the monthly Haven subscription to be useful
I’ve got to say I really like the SmartCamera. The video is clear, the night vision works well, and the 180° field of view is really nice. The virtual pan it does while following someone’s motion makes it seem like the camera is really physically tracking them (when “Person Detection” is enabled). The camera integration with Haven (for storing and showing recorded video) is really good. I’ve had no issues with it at all. Upload seems to be happening just fine (I have good WiFi coverage and a fast pipe into/out of the house). Playback is quick with no hiccups. With Haven I can get a notification on my phone when it detects motion, as well as look at past saved clips (2 minutes lone) in the history view.A nice thing is that the thumbnail image in the history view is from the point of detected motion/person, even though the saved video starts about 5 seconds before that. However, sometimes I see that the thumbnail is about half a second too soon – I have a bunch that just show a person’s arm (as they were walking into view), whereas half a second later the whole person would be in the frame.A downside is that the Camera seems completely useless without the monthly Haven subscription. I used it that way for a week before I activated the Haven 1 month trial. There seemed to be nothing I could do outside of looking at the camera live. It might have been nice for there to be at least the most recent detected activity available if Haven wasn’t in use. I plan to let the Haven subscription expire after the free month to again compare the available features without it. For instance, I’m pretty sure the ‘Activity’ tab on the app only appeared after I enabled Haven.I was also very surprised the ecobee.com account portal (non-app) doesn’t include the camera at all. That means the only way to view the camera it is with the phone app.The built-in Alexa is fine, but we really don’t use it. The camera is in the front hall, and it sometimes picked up us talking to the Echo in our kitchen, so we ended up muting it’s Alexa to avoid that .2 minor negatives:(1) the camera gets pretty warm. It pulls about 3.5W continuously while monitoring (during the day; I don’t have the measurement from night vision mode).(2) it makes a loud click when turning on and off the night vision infrared lights. Turning on the lights near the camera makes it turn off the IR LEDs and make the noise. Depending upon where the camera is located, this noise could be annoying.I also had a minor issue setting up the camera. When my phone would switch to the temporary WiFi ssid the camera created, it would detect no Internet access and switch to phone data, causing the setup to timeout. Simply make sure your phone doesn’t do that (turn on airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi, and then setup the camera).

Unreliable as baby monitor
Review update 8/6/23:Ecobee finally replaced our camera, over one year later. They were unable to provide a refund because it was purchased from Amazon. The new camera actually does work well with Apple Home Kit, but we cannot add both parents as users without purchasing another device to use as Home Hub (such as Apple TV). If you already have Apple TV, I expect this camera would work ok for your family. The camera still does not work with Ecobee’s app and will not load consistently. I’m still giving the product one star due to the difficult experience with Ecobee’s customer service and because it took a year to have our issue partially resolved. We have Ecobee’s smart thermostats and they work well, but I’m not likely to purchase further products from this company due to lack of customer support.Original review:We purchased this camera almost one year ago to use as a monitor for our second child. It has honestly never worked for us. The camera is very slow to connect to the app or will not connect at all. We get either a spinning circle or error, needing to refresh many times before we can see our baby. We have gone back and forth with Ecobee’s customer service – we tested the camera right next to our router, used a hot spot, reset the camera, reset our wifi. We have a different wifi camera for our older child that works just fine in our house. Customer service will not replace the camera despite it being under warranty and will not give us a refund. We currently do not have a video monitor for our youngest child despite spending $100 on this camera. I do not recommend this product.

I’m really happy with this camera so far. The setup through Apple Home was smooth, and it integrates perfectly with my other HomeKit devices. I can easily check the live feed directly from the Home app or even ask Siri to show me the camera. The video quality is crisp, with a wide 180° field of view that captures the entire room. The night vision is clear, and I love the two-way audio — it’s great for checking in at home when I’m away. The motion and person detection work accurately, and the notifications arrive almost instantly. I also appreciate that Ecobee takes privacy seriously, allowing local video encryption and automatic pausing when family members are detected. The only small downside is that it requires a steady Wi-Fi connection; if your signal is weak, it can occasionally disconnect. Other than that, it’s been very reliable.Overall, this is a great choice for Apple Home users who want a camera that’s simple to use, secure, and smartly designed.

The Ecobee camera is an excellent addition to the Ecobee ecosystem. Installation is simple, and the image quality is excellent. While there have been some negative reviews, I have not experienced any of the reported connection issues. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality and smooth security camera.

Good indoor camera. I like it has the motion tracking without it having to rotate and move to keep the detected object in the field of view. It is less noticeable to the people in the room. It disconnects from Apple HomeKit from time to time but it is easy to set back to factory settings and reconnect to HomeKit. Hopefully it won’t be a problem with a future update. I like how it is Alexa built in. Why not Siri??? The thermostat premium has Siri and airplay 2!!! Hopefully with an update the camera will have it as well. Good camera. I do wish it was half the size of it though.

NEVER EVER buy a refurbished camera. Biggest piece of junk ever!!!Bought 2 new a tried a refurb. The new ones, no problem. Refurb is basically a brick. Powered up and turned into a brick after connecting. Now nothing responds. Tried unplugging, resetting and removed from the system. Nothing is working with this piece of garbage. Guess it’s just a way for them to make it look like they are being environmentally conscious but really just worse because now all the energy spent trying to keep this out of a landfill was just added to this unit be cause that’s where it’s headed.I will NEVER take a chance with anything that isn’t factory sealed. Incredibly disappointed with the reseller and Amazon. Ecobee, take note because this ultimately makes your products look bad.

Great camera, easy to access from either iOS or Android app. Great resolution and functions. I wish it were web accessible.
