    Worth It!
Accurate, Easy to Use, and the Wireless Printing is a Game Changer!I’m thoroughly impressed with the Code Reader. As someone who likes to handle minor vehicle diagnostics myself, this tool has made that process smoother and more efficient than ever. Setup was quick, the interface is user-friendly, and the real-time data readout is both fast and accurate. It instantly read my check engine light code and even provided definitions and suggestions—no need to Google anything. It works flawlessly on both of my vehicles (Ford and Toyota), and the build quality feels solid and professional.Highly recommend for DIYers or even professionals looking for a reliable and portable diagnostic tool. Great value for the price!

Affordable, utilitarian, and indispensable diagnostic tool!
I have long since wanted to own one of these units but they were previously cost prohibitive. I received this from Amazon last week and I cannot pile enough praise on it for the functionality, ease of use, and intuitive menu design. This unit has it all you needn’t spend an unreasonable amount of money for quality and accurate diagnostics. This OBDmate delivers!

    Engine Code Diagnostic Reader
Could hardly wait to try out this engine code diagnostic reader. Overall it is a good basic scanner. A deal at $20. I plugged in the connector and followed the instructions. The menu buttons are easy to read – very functional. While the unit is very compact the cable is long enough so you can sit in the driver seat and read the led display. The instructions are very clear and the unit has a lot more features than I will ever need or use.Highly recommend…

    👍 😎 Awesome
It was way better than I thought it was going to be!!! 🙏. it reads codes correctly and the codes that it reads, you can look up on the device and it tells you exactly what it means. You can check live data while you’re driving and reset check engine light codes and any other codes. Well worth the money!! Husband loves it

    Handy Tool That Works!
This is a perfect tool to have on hand! It saves a trip to the auto parts store as well as giving you an idea of what’s going on with your vehicle. You receive a list of codes to help easily identify the issue. Also helps with those annoying “know it all” mechanics and their ridiculous diagnostic charges! Highly recommend for the price!

Cleared 420 code! Provide tons of other info as well.
Ordered this because my wife’s Jeep was giving a 0420 check engine code (catalytic converter), AutoZone and Advance Auto were happy to read the code but both refused to clear it due to the fact it was “emissions” related. Car wouldn’t pass inspection with any code up so I was pretty much dead in the water. For what I have seen is most catalytic converter errors are one time flukes or dirty gas related so I didn’t want to pay a mechanic $100-150 just to reset it. This OBDII reader not only showed the same code as the auto parts places but also cleared the error…and it has not been back since! Also does a bunch of other cool stuff like provide real time car metrics, RPM, performance, temps, O2 sensor readings, and about any other data and graphs you could dream of. Looks like it could be a tuner’s dream come true and could help diagnose engine problems as well. Lots of built in testing functions from O2 sensors to “evap leak test.” Currently don’t need either but could come in handy in the future.Super impressed with the range of functions and ease of use.FWIW, also worked on my Jeep too (different model from my wife’s) and my Ram 1500 as well.

Great unit I highly recommend it
Well I had it in my Ford 2016 F250 and my Truck would not start. It said memory loss when I did the look up on it. Anyway one symtom that could complete dead battery, so I went to Autozone and they installed it and tested everything, buy this keep it in your glove compartment and save money on sensors etc

This is a basic, entry level OBDII scanner that will work with most vehicles that have the port. It’s self powered and has a clear, easy to read display.Scan for existing codes, or ones that in the process of being permanent. Clear codes to see if the ones that appear are only temporary, or as a result of a low battery. This is very useful when looking to purchase a used vehicle. You can quickly scan for existing issues to avoid buying something with expensive problems. The codes that popup have useful descriptions to give you some idea of what’s wrong and to enable you to have a more detailed conversation with your dealer/mechanic when calling for service. You can check the work done after service to be sure all codes have been cleared and the work completed properly. There is a “printing” feature. You select the print option after scanning and the device creates a QR code that you scan with your phone. This takes you to the manufacturers website where a report is generated that you can print with your home computer and printer. This is useful when you bring the vehicle in for service, you can just hand your service manager the printout that will help them get some idea of what’s going on so they can predict service time required or even parts and labor cost estimates. This isn’t a bidirectional scanner that is needed for more involved servicing issues like ABS brake bleeding and throttle or injector adjustments. It reports the VIN which is good for verification – especially with used vehicles. The cord is only 32″ long which is OK only if you’re holding it while seated in the car or working beside it at the door. Even though it can be used to make live readings, the cord isn’t long enough to reach the dash for example or a passenger who can monitor issues as you drive.A longer cord would also be useful when diagnosing things under the hood. While testing, you could watch changes on the scanner if the cord was long enough to reach to the engine bay. It would be a great upgrade for the manufacturer to make this unit with a 6 foot long cord that would greatly improve the utility without increasing the cost much. The case is a hard plastic with an easy grip edge. It seems well designed enough to absorb impacts from falls without damage. This is a decent entry level scanner for the price and should be part of everyone’s toolbox.

This review is for the OBDMATE OBDII/EOBD+CAN Code Scanner. This is not my first code scanner but this one provides much more data than my other plus the ability to transfer the data to your phone. An OBDII scanner is an important tool for any car owner. While I currently don’t have any codes to read, that was not the case with my old car. In fact, with the scanner, I was able to reset codes to pass the Drive Clean test (no longer an issue in Ontario) but I was also able to discover that a mechanic had lied to me about fixing an issue when I was still showing the same code. He claimed it was a new issue with a different code. Mechanics can charge alot to scan your car so this device pays for itself. Even when I told them the code and declined to pay for the scan, I found they still did it anyways without charging me. YMMV on that. This scanner was very easy to use with instructions on the screen. The device does not need batteries as it receives power from your vehicle. My check engine light is not on so I had no codes to read to verify the accuracy but I would assume that it would work correctly. There were also no codes stored or pending which it also tells you. It was able to pull up my VIN which was correct. It provides alot of additional information which I honestly did not understand. It even provide live data and graphs. I found the screens were laid out nicely, same with the buttons making it easy to use right out of the box. Of course, understanding what it tells you is a different story but I wanted it to read codes and it will work fine for that. It is a nice scanner for my purposes. It also does an EVAP leak test. Apparently it signals your car’s computer to do the test. When I tried that, I got a message that that function was not available. They do tell you to check your car’s manual which I did not do.

The feature set is pretty extensive for a relatively inexpensive item like this one. The controls feel decent and the display is easy to read. The plug being attached to the unit means you don’t have separate parts that you could lose which I like. It does a pretty good job guiding you through the process with on screen prompts. The only negative point is that upon scanning the QR code, the download button didn’t work. I use Chrome on my phone so a very standard setup, but it didn’t work. I got the info I needed but the images of the PDF looked very nice so I would have wanted to experience that as well.

So this is a “not half-bad” generic “OBD-II scanner”. Since I’ve long “surpassed” the land of “basic” OBD-II readers I was a bit surprised at what an entry-level code-reader device can do these days. And to be clear, that’s what this is–an entry-level, standalone unit. It’s not going to do any ABS, SRS (airbag), etc. codes–stuff like B-codes and C-codes–let alone any manufacturer-specific stuff; but, it’s pretty capable otherwise for reading P-codes (powertrain DTCs) and a good few other things. It supports all the major communication protocols for passenger vehicles as well, so while it may not have a ton of features it should at least work for most of its functions with virtually any car. This OBDMate OM201 model, it’s a small, port-powered, standalone device which means it doesn’t need any batteries or charging, nor smartphone or tablet to operate–which has its advantages. The OBD cable on it is actually pretty thick and sturdy looking too–which is more than I can say for some far more expensive tools. The screen isn’t huge, it isn’t colour (just a dot-matrix monochrome LCD), but the backlight makes it bright and easy to read. You can adjust the contrast in the settings to adjust for lighting and holding angle as well. The navigation through the menus is accomplised by four buttons–UP, DOWN, ESC, and OK. Mostly these are self-explanatory and you really don’t need to read the manual to figure out how to operate this thing. In addition to just reading and clearing P-codes (which was perhaps the limits of most of these simple/entry devices some years ago). Instead this one can actually do a bunch of other stuff like:-Showing freeze frame data for codes-Showing live data across standard OBD-II PIDs (again no manufacturer specific but not expected at this level/price)-Select live data PIDs can be graphed on-screen as well–neat!-Showing readiness states (build-in emissions testing results of the car)-Couple function tests–O2 sensors and evap system. However YMMV on if these will actually work on your make of car.-Shows monitors like misfire countsThere’s a “wireless print” feature but we should sort of be clear on what this really does. The device itself doesn’t have any wireless connectivity (no wifi or Bluetooth), rather it basically just takes whatever codes you pull up and makes them into a QR-code. You scan that QR code with your phone and it’ll take you to the OBDmate/Autophix website where it turns that into a webpage of the codes you have, which you can then print from there. It’s kind of a misnomer to say it has “wireless printing” but in a roundabout way, you can print out the codes you have on your car, yeah. There’s a USB-C port on the device but this is not labelled, nor is it explained or mentioned in the manual. I imagine this is for f/w updates of which none seem to exist; but, seems like the device would be capable of such updates. If you plug it into your computer it will power up and show a “progress bar” type display…with no progress on it. It’s reported in Windows as “Automotive Diagnostic Device” with VID & PID of VID_0483&PID_5265–do with that info what you will. I don’t think there is any “Windows software” or anything to interface the device with for OBD purposes and nor should you really need to because this is meant to be a standalone. As a bonus there is a generic DTC database built in where you can put in any DTC number and it will pop up the text description of it. It’s not really all that useful since anyone can google and the descriptions in here may not be entirely correct for every vehicle; but it’s nice to have nonetheless, in a standalone. There is a bunch of stuff it’s certainly NOT going to do, some of which I mentioned above, but also this is not going to do stuff like service resets, so you’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re after something like that.All-in-all it’s not bad for what it is. Price seems about on par what a basic device like this costs across some other brands/models, with the same type of screen and features. This is definitely a good one to keep in your glovebox, trunk, etc. in case you ever need it or are on the road somewhere and have an “engine light come on” and don’t have any access to your better/more robust tools (if you should even have those). The only thing I can really fault it for is that it would have been nice if it at least came with a carry/storage case. Unfortunately it does not–it’s just shipped in a box in a light, protective shipping bag along with the manual, and that’s all you get. It doesn’t even have a factory/shipping screen protector applied. But it’s a lower cost device, you can’t have everything. This is not enough to deduct a star for though so it’ll get all five of them from this reviewer.

Easy to scan codes, and it has some more advanced options as well. not everything you’re going to want if you have a pro shop, but perfect for a guy like me that wants to ensure there’s no codes before doing DIY maintenance. has a good tough build too, so not scared to toss it in my toolbox.
