    Just Fun!
So first. I’ve shot on an OM1 mark ii, was fun. Wasn’t mine. I have a FF A7rv I love. However, I wanted a sleek easy to carry road warrior. This camera exceeded my expectations! Not only am I getting cleaner shots, it goes where the big boys can’t. Faster, lighter and just fun and easy to use. Simple is usually always better, allows your creativity to shine. Sure a little learning curve but nothing to fear, like Apple products, just simple. Couldn’t be happier with this little camera, not to mention its build quality! All metal, solid controls, just well built. Even knowing the Sony has a metal chassis I’m afraid to drop it, plastic housing. This is solid. Back to image quality. The FF era is all about the latest and greatest, heck I felt that way. Never gave a thought to a micro 4/3. Then I tried one, then bought this. No regrets on that. It’s just better in the ways that are important for the daily shooter. FF has its place sure, but daily fun, better overall quality in the photo, the creativity is what we all got into this for. Brings you back to the fun of photography! That to me is a win. Has all the features of its big brother aside from the view finder which you won’t miss, trust me. This little thing is a beast. Speed is second to none, never miss a shot or moment. Plus, it’s just easy to carry, retro look that gets people asking. Little do they know what’s inside. Truth, hard to explain until you try it. Just have fun and play with the settings and creative modes. It brings you back to what excitement you had about photography to begin with, makes it fun again. Can’t put a price on that. Even so, for what you get its priced far less than a comparable FF with less expensive lighter and faster lens options. If you have the $, try it you won’t be disappointed.

Back to the future with the OM-3
I purchased a PenF in 2016, and like many I was expecting an updated Mk II. Instead, the reincarnation of the classic 70’s era OM SLRs was launched. As the original owner of a OM-2 purchased in 1975, this was a “back to the future” moment…after 50 years (see photo). For the camera history buffs, the OM-2 was ground breaking because it featured automatic exposure (AE) with an aperture-preferred shutter!DesignThe “throwback” design makes it one of most beautiful camera on the market. The all-metal construction feels premium making it well suited for travel, urban and outdoor photography. I was struck by how light the OM-3 was. Oddly it felt lighter in my hand than the PenF which did not make sense since the OM-3 weighs 496 g versus 427 g for the PenF. I attribute this to being less dense since the OM-3 is larger than the PenF. It along with 3-4 lens can easily fit into one of the three compartments of my 20L under seat back pack (see photo)HandlingMuch has been written about the flat front and lack of a grip. The original OM SLRs were flat and I believe respecting this heritage and the addition of a front grip is mutually exclusive. As you would expect the compact lenses were weightless. The 12-45 f/4 Pro felt weightless and a great match to the body. There is feeling of front heaviness with the 12-40 f/2.8 Pro but balance was still good. I tried the bulky 8-25 f/4 pro wide angle and there is a perceptible front heaviness but thankfully the center of gravity doesn’t shift during telescoping. The back thumb grip does come in handy. I did find that my ring and pinkie fingers do rub against the creative dial. For longer/larger lens, I will use the Peak Design Micro Clutch to improve the grip without diminishing the retro look (see photos). The multiple tactile dials on the top are satisfyingly solid and addictive. There are numerous programable buttons, and I especially like the CP button for direct access to computational functions. The dedicated AF button on the back makes back button focusing easy. Similar to the PenF, there is a front creative dial for adjusting color and monochrome profiles. It is simply small, lightweight, and completely solid in your hands.PerformanceFocus is brazing fast and accurate compared to the PenF. The menu system is new but easy to understand especially for OM users. It is throughly modern inside with state of the art technologies taken from the OM-1 MkII. Be aware that there are differences to maintain distance to the flagship such as one less SD card slots, lower top electronic shutter speed, one less Live ND filter etc. I do not feel those subtractions diminish the OM-3 capabilities especially since they are all new to me anyways.ValueCritics who argue that you can buy a larger sensor camera for the same price miss the point of “less is more”. For me, photography is a hobby and creative activity. Since it is not a profession, I have zero motivation to haul bulky gear. Since I value portability and durability during my travels, I am willing to spend the $ for the best packable, weather sealed, do everything, go anywhere camera. Getting out, taking pictures, recording memories and having fun is more valuable than additional pixels or wider dynamic range. The OM-3 hits the target and it motivates and inspires to create.

    Really Powerful, Fun and Tiny!
I was initially reluctant to buy this because I didn’t understand why I should pay so much for a camera that wasn’t full frame. Now that I own it, my initial hesitations seem absurd. IIt’s a terrific little camera with specs that rival much more expensive full-frame options. The straight out of camera JPEGs, especially with the custom color profiles and computational features are awesome.I was in southern Greece and I saw a high contrast ferry about to dock. I wasn’t carrying my graduated ND filters, but I used the camera’s built-in computational GND filter. The result was awesome and I got it faster than reaching into a bag and grabbing a filter. It’s a very powerful and fun camera in a very small package. The stacked sensor provides impressive speed and the battery life is excellent. Autofocus is very good, especially with subject detection. The price is It’s only problem, but this is the cheapest stacked sensor camera, so it’s not unreasonable. If you’re on the fence, just do it. It’s a legitimately fun camera and it’s small!

    Outstanding camera
Great focus accuracy and speed. Quality built and excellent interface via dials and menus. Every feature is matured and thought throw. Computational photography a welcomed addition. Wi Fi speed for downloading is excellent.Stabilization and high ISO with low noise as expected at this price range and more. Really great product.

    Small Powerhouse
Although just a micro four thirds sensor, I’ve gotten great results while shooting RAW images. I have higher resolution cameras, but they’re too bulky for everyday use and vacation travel. The OM-3 strikes the right balance for me between size and performance.Plus, the OM Systems menu system is much easier to navigate than the ones on my Nikon and Fujifilm cameras. The physical dials are logically laid out and easy to access.Overall, it’s become one of my favorite cameras.

    Not the camera for me
A great lookin camera but, the lack of a grip, mediocre viewfinder, and no meaningful difference from OM-1, meant I returned this.
